Nice puzzle
You have 2 sand box in hand. One sand box will measure the 7 minsanother one will measure 4 mins.Using this two sand box you need measure 9 mins. In butween you want stop the filling sand from top to bottom or bottom to top you can do.

Lets consider 7mins box is A and 4mins box is B. FIrst start to count by activating both sand boxes that pours top to bottom. After 4 mins in A box 3 mins sand will be in top and B is empty in top. Now make B box alone reverse. So after 3(That is totally 4+3=7) mins A will be empty and in B box 1min sand will be remain. Now again make A box reverse. After 1 min B will be empty(that is 7+1 = 8min)and A box will have 1min sand. Now again make A box reverse. After one min this also will be empty.So finally we got 8 + 1 min = 9 minutes.. Hope this is good.
